Precision Machine Piecing for Beginners
Elizabeth’s Sampler: Let’s Begin” Finished 49” x 69” (approx.) by The Rabbit Factory
In this 7 week series of 3 hour classes you will learn the basics of precision machine piecing. These basics are the cornerstone to all successful machine piecing whether you enjoy traditional, modern, or innovative/improvisational.
You will solidly understand the importance of a personal quarter inch seam allowance which allows you to measure for accuracy each time. You will learn to orient and cut accurately with your rulers, square your units and then sew them into blocks. Learning the best way to press your seams and then square your blocks will allow your quilt to lay flat in preparation for the borders to be applied. Units covered will be: half square triangles, flying geese, stitch and flip method, strip piecing, and basic squares. You will also be introduced to a touch of basic machine appliqué using the prepared method which results in beautifully smooth edges and a lovely finish.
Along the way, students will also learn many tips and tricks you will not find written in instructions which make the process more fun and stress free!

Wanda has been quilting for 24 years and sewing since she was a young girl. Her first love was hand piecing and hand appliqué in the traditional genre. Wanda has since moved on to acquire all encompassing expertise in machine techniques and methods.
She is a long standing member of Manitoba Prairie Quilters and the Canadian Quilters’ Association. Wanda has won ribbons in the Red River Exhibition and the Manitoba Prairie Quilters’ Quilt Reflections Show. She has taken many classes over these 24 years and read innumerable books. For personal applications and enjoyment, Wanda consistently gravitates toward unusual patterns and techniques-rarely main stream. She has found, and continues to find, inspiration in visiting exhibits and quilt shops in her travels throughout Canada, United States, Italy and this year, Ireland!
Wanda has been teaching beginner and intermediate machine piecing methods for the past 13 years in Manitoba and Ontario. Students respond very well to her patient, methodical, but very upbeat and encouraging, style of teaching.
